That’s when you were back to the base junk. Detailed maps too – not the old and useless ‘base map’ junk.īut what happens when you traveled outside your region? Thus if you buy an Edge device in the US you’ll have North American maps, and if you buy it in Spain you’ll have European maps, and if you buy it in Sydney you’ll have Australian/New Zealand maps. Things have certainly changed in the Garmin Edge world in six years – most notably that all of Garmin’s mapping capable Edge devices now actually come with detailed maps for the region you bought it in. It’s almost identical to last week’s post and the one six years ago, except specific to the Garmin Edge series because frankly it’ll help people in Google trying to find Edge-specific instructions. But as promised, I’d be refreshing that old Edges-specific post too – which is what this new post is all about. But I am happy to work with Garmin Support if they want to solve this issue.Last week I published a piece on how to install free maps on your Garmin wearable, which was a tweaked update of my six-year-old post on how to install maps on your Garmin Edge devices. This is something Garmin needs to fix so that normal user accounts on a domain joined notebook with local admin rights have no issues updating and/or uninstalling and reinstalling Garmin Express.įor now I am fine, and I will not spent time anymore as I have a work around with loging in as a domain administrator for update Garmin Express. I discussed this with my tech and he thinks that these kind of issues are registry related, that Garmin cannot access/edit registry keys. However yesterday I logged out of my notebook, then logged in as domain administrator ( I am a IT company owner, so I can do that because I have the domain administrator password) the update process went with NO issue! Then I logged out and in again with my normal user account (local admin on nb) Garmin Express worked normal with updated version, until the next update I guess!!! Even run as administrator does not solve the issue. This problem we are suffering for many years now!Īs my notebook is a Microsoft Server DOMAIN joined computer, nothing special configured and no Group policy applied, and with local admin rights on notebook these issue's persist. Even un/reinstall which is a dirty thing to do and a time consuming procedure, does not work. My experience with 3 different notebooks and even more clean installs of Windows 10/11 Professional resulted in the same Garmin Issues again and again (disabled AV, etc, etc nothing helps) not being able to update. I agree that something does not work well with maintaining Garmin Express in specific situations. I am really frustrated now, have invested in Garmin Edge 1030 and ForeRunner 945, but having issues all the time with Garmin Software We would like to bike and run instead of troubleshooting and fixing Garmin software. Tips like disable Antivirus are not done anymore in these times with Ransomware danger, Garmin does know from its own Please this be fixed forever, update should be simple and hassle free. Also changed Antivirus vendor from Webroot to Sophos, no change also! So it cannot be associated with the Windows Install, notebook, etc. I am suffering this problem for years now, have had 3 notebooks same problem with Garmin Express, no issues with installing/updating other software. I am sick now uninstalling Garmin Express every few months. Then I can uninstall with the Microsoft tool, but WHY do I need that every update again? All my other software works fine. Suggested solutions like runs-as Administrator, Unblock App, etc do NOT work. Updating Garmin Express, even uninstalling/reinstalling Garmin Express ends up with some kind of message Cannot Install. I have problem updating Garmin Express EVERY time for YEARS now.
